I have worked in collaboration with one of our partners to provide you with the below post.
With spring just around the corner, spring cleaning is already lingering in the back of your mind. You’re admittedly looking forward to the excuse to purge and redo your wardrobe, and for good reason. Even though our closets are one of the highest trafficked areas in our homes, they tend to be an afterthought when it comes to cleaning, de-cluttering, and organization. However when our shopping habits get ahead of our organization habits, our closets overflow with too many cute dresses, pumps, and designer bags (yes, there is a such thing as too many!). Whether you’re looking to dial down the intensity of your closet or are in need of a redo button, these tips will help revamp your wardrobe in no time and stay within your tight budget.
1. Take stock
Many of us can attest to finding skirts and tops we thought we lost or got rid of ages ago in the back of our closet. Taking inventory will help you assess the severity of your closet’s condition. You’ll be able to see each piece hiding in your dressers or racks and decide whether it’s worth keeping or chucking.
2. Set goals
Set a goal for how many items you want to get rid of and how many items you want to add. The last thing you want to do is take stock and overhaul your entire closet only to find you’re too attached to everything to let things go.
3. Kick the non-fits
Keepers of clothing sized just a few inches too small, we’re talking to you. Stop telling yourself you’ll fit into those jeans one day—you’re making yourself miserable! Celebrate your body the way it is by beautifying your current wardrobe so you look and feel gorgeous every day. Send those small sizes to the local Salvation Army so someone else can make better use of them.
4. Online window shop
Revamping your wardrobe is difficult especially when you walk into a mall in search of pretty much nothing. Save yourself the headache of searching through racks and walking into every store and use the web as an at-home window shopping tool. Seeing a model in a pair of high waisted white jeans and a light brown pea coat may inspire you to copy her style. Make a list of your favorite window shopping items and scavenge for them in your favorite stores.
5. Wait for sales
Why pay full price for an item if you know President’s Day is coming up and Macy’s always has a crazy 40% off sale? Getting into the habit of shopping around holidays assures that you’ll always get the best deals. If you’re impatient and need those adorable espadrilles from The Bay, check their site and popular couponing sites to find The Bay promo codes that could earn you and extra 10% to 30% off your purchase!
6. Visit your local thrift store
Once you’ve gone through your closet and filled a bag or two of items you no longer want, drop them off at your local thrift store. Kill two birds with one stone by shopping around the store to see if there are any cute pieces worth adding to your closet. Just make sure nothing resembles the items you just donated—you got rid of that lavender chiffon button-up for a reason!
7. Sell your clothes for some extra cash
The digital age has blessed us fashionistas with apps like Depop, Mercari, and Poshmark that make reselling our lightly loved items to other fashionistas all across the country. These apps let you set your own price and even facilitate shipping processes so everything is a breeze for beginners and veterans. Hot items sitting in your closet like Patagonia pullovers or old Tiffany necklaces will sell for a pretty penny, so make sure to know their resale worth before listing!
8. Go minimalist
If you’re feeling overwhelmed by all of the patterns, colors, textures, and styles decorating your closet, dialing it down to a minimalist wardrobe may be your answer. The perfect style for moms, working gals, and college students alike, minimalism is characterized by simple colors matched with simple clothing pieces. We’re talking jeans and tees, white sneakers and plain day dresses. Minimalism doesn’t have to be boring though—spice your wardrobe up with a colorful moto jacket or glitzy accessories to add some shine.
Each of these tips fit any budget no matter how big or small. Redoing your wardrobe is as fun a project as they come, so take your time and invest in your personal style this spring for a fresh-feeling revamped wardrobe!
