I love roast beef. And whether I am eating a cut of prime rib or a French dip sandwich, I need to have it with some horseradish. Since we like to whip up French dip sandwiches for weekend lunches on a regular basis, I have developed a quick and easy homemade recipe for creamy horseradish sauce using ingredients that I usually have on hand. This creamy horseradish sauce recipe is amazing slathered on your French dip sandwich, but equally good with a roast beef dinner.

Here is what you need to make homemade creamy horseradish sauce:
I prefer to use Hellmann’s or Best Foods Real or Light Mayonnaise with this recipe, as the other stuff would be too sweet. Either regular or light sour cream work, so go with whatever you prefer.
Here’s how to make my easy creamy horseradish sauce recipe.
Add all your creamy horseradish sauce ingredients together in a bowl.
Mix them together until completely blended, then cover the bowl and refrigerate the creamy horseradish sauce for at least 30 minutes for the flavors to incorporate.
We find that this is the perfect balance of horseradish so that it has a kick, but is not too spicy that our kids can’t handle it. If you like more of a bite in your creamy horseradish sauce you can always add more horseradish.
Now, just slather it (generously) onto some toasted French bread along with your favorite French dip recipe!

Creamy Horseradish Sauce
This easy creamy horseradish sauce can be prepared with ingredients you likely have at home already. This homemade sauce is delicious slathered on French dip sandwishes or on the side of prime rib and roast beef.
Ingredients
- 1/2 cup mayonnaise (I prefer Hellmann’s or Best Foods)
- 2 tablespoons prepared horseradish
- Dollop of sour cream
- Fresh lemon juice
- Garlic salt, to taste
Instructions
- Mix all ingredients together in a bowl until completely blended.
- Cover and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes for the flavors to incorporate.
Notes
This creamy horseradish sauce has just the right amount of horseradish to give it a kick without being too spicy for our kids. If you like your creamed horseradish to have more of a bite, you can increase the amount of horseradish you use.
