You’ve no doubt seen ads for meal kit services. To be honest, I was a little put-off to try one since I have a handle on meal planning myself for the most part, and it didn’t seem worth the cost. Don’t get me wrong, as a busy working mom, I would have loved the convenience of a service like this… but being the DIYer I am, I just had a hard time justifying the price. It wasn’t until recently when I learned about Dinnerly (the most affordable meal kit subscription service) that I decided to give this kind of service a chance. Y’all, I think I have officially been converted. It saved me not only time, but also money, PLUS the Dinnerly meals I made were delicious, and family-friendly! Here’s how Dinnerly works:
Dinnerly is really geared towards busy people (hello, all of us!) who like home-cooked meals but don’t want to have to sacrifice because of time and budget (hello, this is exactly what Fab Everyday is all about!). The meals are affordable, at $4.99 a serving, and from my experience the servings are generous. You can choose from two different plans: a couple box (two adult servings) or the family box (four adult servings). A family could honestly get away with the two-serving plan if your kids are really little, or you could use any extra from the four-serving plan for lunches throughout the week. Each week you get a cold box delivered in your plan size containing three meals, which you get to choose from their list of weekly, seasonal menu choices.
Given the emphasis on helping the busy person still have a nice, home-cooked meal, the recipes are all relatively quick and easy, with no more than five steps, including the side dish (no one has time to make a fussy meal on a busy weeknight). The kit includes fresh and locally-sourced ingredients, plus everything you need to make the meal, including seasonings and perfectly portioned cheeses and condiments. The only things it doesn’t include are the pantry staples like olive oil, salt, and pepper.
The result? Less time meal planning, list-making, shopping, and deciding what to make each day. This meant more time with my family in the evening and juggling work-life and home-life. This was a relief during an especially busy week last week. I had no idea what I was missing before trying Dinnerly!
As I said, the meal choices are seasonal and vary week by week, but here is an example of what I got in my box:
Chipotle Burger with Sweet Potato Fries. This was really good! The meat was a high-quality, grass-fed beef, the buns fresh and tasty, and the chipotle sauce delicious. Since the sauce is on the side, we didn’t have to put it on the kids’ burgers (therefore we had no issue with spiciness for the kids).
Parmesan Chicken-Potato Roast. This one actually felt kind of fancy, but was super simple since it was a sheet-pan meal. Again, the quality of the meat was excellent.
Pizza Quesadilla with Roasted Broccoli. This was also delicious, and super simple to make, even though one of the steps was making a homemade pizza sauce. The roasted broccoli side was so good that the kids kept sneaking broccoli from the kitchen while I was plating up the meals!
Dinnerly definitely gets the Fab Everyday seal of approval! Don’t forget to use code FABEVERYDAY for free shipping on your first Dinnerly box!
