Summertime, and the livin’s easy… The view from our backyard is one of my favorite things about our house. We sit on a greenbelt and look out onto oak trees, a small creek, and get daily visits from deer, bunnies, a number of different birds, and our resident squirrel, Leroy. During the spring and summer, we love spending as much time as we can in our yard gardening, playing, grilling food, and eating dinner on the patio. The only problem I have with our yard is that I never know what to do for landscape design, so it’s a pretty blank canvas. When I heard about the Upgrade Your Summer Sweepstakes* (the Grand Prize is a Backyard Makeover valued at up to $25,000!), I had to share it. What an epic summer giveaway! Just imagine what you would do with a backyard makeover… what a dream! See more about the sweepstakes below.
Now that the nice weather looks like it’s here to stay, we’ve hit up Walmart for all our outdoor enjoyment needs (don’t you love one-stop shopping?). We’ve got our meat and veggies to grill, our charcoal and grilling accessories, our patio needs, and of course, America’s #1 Lighter, our trusty BIC® Lighters.
Whether you’re firing up the grill or lighting your citronella candles, there are varieties of BIC® lighters perfect for your needs. My hubby loves BIC® Multi-purpose Lighters for their reliability and consistent quality, and their design works perfectly for lighting the grill at home, or our camp fire when we’re camping. And our grilling and camping kits wouldn’t be complete without BIC® Maxi Classic® pocket lighters America’s Safest and Longest Lasting Lighter, vs. fixed-flame, non-refillable lighters of comparable size!
We always have a few BIC® Pocket Lighter packs on hand for when we need them, and I love that the packs come in a variety of colors and patterns to match your décor and personality. Even better than the cool colors is the fact that we can trust their safety – every BIC Lighter has passed more than 50 individual safety and quality inspections.
Now, who’s ready for an outdoor upgrade this summer?

I need a backyard makeover. I have a deep lot with one big willow tree in the middle. It is beautiful, gives a lot of shade. Need some help working around it with shade plants, some ideas would be nice.

I need a backyard makeover.
It’s new construction house and I have no idea how to make this backyard look amazing.
The backyard is a clean canvas. No trees, no privacy. Help!

Hi Jess – stay tuned for a blog post that I am sharing tomorrow on our backyard makeover. Ours was very much a clean slate too (just a concrete slab), and we just did a lovely upgrade on a budget.
