Tips for making sandwiches in advance

ham and turkey sliders

I’ve got step-by-step instructions for making this ham and turkey sliders recipe below, but first, here are some tips for making sandwiches ahead of time so they can last for a few days in the fridge. These tips for making sandwiches in advance will help save you a lot of time in the mornings!

  • Don’t put condiments directly on the bread. To keep the bread from getting soggy while still saving yourself a step, put the condiments between your meat and cheese layers. The meat and cheese will add a protective barrier to the bread.
  • Skip wet ingredients like sliced tomatoes. If you really want them, slice them in advance and store them separately. Add them to your sandwich in the morning.
  • Store your sandwiches in air-tight containers to keep the bread and ingredients the freshest in your fridge.

This partially depends on when the package of lunch meat/cold cuts was opened. The sandwich itself 3-5 days, but it would be on the lower side if the package of meat had been opened longer and if you used fresh deli meat (shorter shelf life) vs. pre-packaged meat (longer shelf life after the package is opened).

Hello! I needed to read this! Sándwiches for my daughter’s wedding, so 700 of them. I’m wondering if a little butter on one side of the bread next to the lettuce would better preserve the lettuce?
They need to stay fresh for 24 hours

I’ve not tried the butter trick, but I think it’s mostly to be a moisture barrier for the bread and I’m not sure it would help with the lettuce or not. Here’s an article that might have some helpful information: https://www.wikihow.com/Keep-Sandwiches-Fresh
