Have you seen the centerpiece cakes trend yet? Basically, it’s using long, narrow, cakes as centerpieces for your party tables, and works for a number of occasions, like birthdays (check out this really cool birthday centerpiece cake example by @thecakeoccasion), weddings, milestones, and, like today’s example, graduation celebrations! It doubles as both decor and dessert! Wilton commissioned me to create and design a graduation centerpiece cake, and it was not only easy to make, but perfect for a graduation party theme! Get the detailed instructions on the Wilton website here, and keep scrolling to see photos for how it turned out! How to make cakes as centerpieces for a graduation party

Click here for the Graduation Centerpiece Cake instructions and product needs on the Wilton website, but this is basically a multi-layered sheet cake that’s cut in half lengthwise then connected to make an extra long (26-inch wide) cake that not only serves a crowd, but also doubles as your graduation party table decor. Stacked high with buttercream layers and decorated with shimmering sprinkles, glittery stars, and graduation caps and diplomas made from Candy Melts, this cake brings the party to the table!

See how it all came together in this YouTube video, but the details consist of tinted buttercream frosting, gold and silver glitter spray, metallic sprinkle mixes, sugar stars, icing decorations, and Candy Melts details.

The centerpiece cake is almost too pretty to eat… almost!

Both the frosting piping and the sprinkle placement were purposefully random and funky.

My favorite part of this centerpiece cake is the Candy Melts mortarboards and diplomas (you know how I love my Candy Melts). They are created by piping the shapes onto wax paper, then adding to the cake (along with some other pre-made Wilton icing decorations) when they’ve dried and hardened.
