One of my favorite meals ever is the BBQ Shrimp from Mr. B’s Bistro in New Orleans. Don’t let the name fool you: New Orleans BBQ shrimp isn’t grilled with a sweet barbecue sauce; it’s simmered in a butter and Worcestershire sauce. This sheet pan shrimp version is reminiscent of these classic New Orleans-style shrimp flavors, but made much more quickly and hands-off, since you make the barbecue shrimp in oven on one pan in less than 20 minutes total! You’ll want to have some French bread handy to sop up the extra sauce! I developed this BBQ shrimp recipe in oven as part of the Allrecipes Allstars Tastemakers program. Here’s what you’ll need to gather to make New Orleans BBQ shrimp on a sheet pan:
- Sheet pan
- Aluminum foil
- ¾ cup unsalted butter, melted (do not substitute margarine for this meal; the butter is a key ingredient, so real unsalted butter should be used)
- ¼ cup Worcestershire sauce
- 1 tablespoon freshly squeezed lemon juice
- 1 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper

- French bread (for sopping up the sauce)
How to make this New Orleans BBQ shrimp recipe in oven
To make barbecue shrimp in oven, first preheat the oven to 400 degrees F (200 degrees C). Line a sheet pan with foil. Mix melted butter (real butter, not margarine), Worcestershire sauce, lemon juice, pepper, Cajun seasoning, and Tabasco sauce (to taste – feel free to add more for a bigger kick for your Cajun sheet pan recipe) together in a small bowl.
Rinse the shrimp in a colander and pat dry with paper towels to remove the excess water. Place them in a large bowl along with the minced garlic. Pour in the butter sauce and toss it with the shrimp and garlic. Finally, pour the shrimp and sauce onto the prepared sheet pan, and spread the shrimp out into an even layer.
Cook the sheet pan shrimp in the pre-heated oven until the shrimp turn pink (be careful not to overcook them, or you’ll end up with chewy sheet pan shrimp). This will take about 8 minutes, but keep an eye on it. Serve the shrimp New Orleans style with the sauce from the pan and French bread for dipping. You won’t want to waste a drop of that sauce, trust me!
