This lemon basil aioli recipe is a great way to use your summer basil harvest! A garlic basic aioli like this is delicious as a spread for sandwiches, for dipping fries or veggies, or for drizzling on tacos. If you’re looking for a basic but delicious garlic basil mayo, this recipe is for you! I originally developed this recipe as a spread for this Pear and Bacon Panini years ago, but the sauce itself is so good that it deserved a recipe post of its own… because it’s great for so much more than just a sandwich, as you’ll see below. What is aioli exactly? You can find out all the history and info in this article, but essentially, aioli commonly refers to a mayo with garlic. Nowadays you can find it with lots of delicious herbs and flavors added in (for example, my Lemon Aioli in this Bacon-Wrapped Asparagus recipe, or my soon-to-be-published Dill Aioli recipe – stay tuned for that one later this month).
What to serve with garlic basil aioli
Aioli is very versatile! Here are some of the most common ways to use a good garlic basil aioli, but feel free to use your imagination:
- Basil aioli is a delicious spread for sandwiches, like this Pear and Bacon Panini or this Bacon and Gruyere Grilled Cheese Sandwich.
- One of my favorite ways to use aioli (especially a yummy lemon basil aioli like this one) is as a dip. You can dip fries (regular or sweet potato fries) or vegetables into aioli.
- Drizzle this tasty garlic basil mayo over tacos (it’s really good with fish, shrimp, or chicken tacos), nachos, or pizza.
- Add a dollop on top of appetizer bites, like bruschetta, fried green tomatoes (or Fried Tomatillo Bites), caprese bites, and more.
