How to make 4th of July Rice Krispie Treats on a stick

To make these red white blue Rice Krispies, start by greasing and lining a deep 9×13-inch baking dish with parchment paper, making sure the paper is long enough to extend over the sides (which will act as pull handles later). Set the prepared dish aside.

In a large heatproof mixing bowl, microwave 1/4 cup (4 tablespoons) of the butter until melted.

Add a 10-ounce bag of mini marshmallows to the butter and microwave in 30-second intervals, stirring after each interval until the mixture is melted and smooth.

To make the blue layer: Stir in the blue Jell-O powder and a few drops of blue food coloring until the desired shade is reached.

Add 6 cups of the Rice Krispies and stir until they are coated in the marshmallow mixture.

Transfer the blue Rice Krispies mixture into the base of the baking dish, flattening and evening out the layer with the bottom of a measuring cup. You will want to apply a bit of pressure to each layer so that they are compressed. This allows the wooden stick to sit firmly in the square without falling over. Tip: To get nice, even layers, you can also try using the bottom of a loaf pan (the wide surface area makes it easy to get a nice flat layer) to press this and all subsequent layers down evenly.

To make the white layer: Repeat the steps with the butter and marshmallows, and then add the vanilla extract and salt, stirring until combined.

Add 6 more cups of Rice Krispies and stir until they are coated in the marshmallow mixture.

Transfer the Rice Krispies mixture to the baking dish, smoothing and leveling the layer.

To make the red layer: Repeat the steps with the butter and marshmallows again, adding the red Jell-O powder and a few drops of the red food coloring to reach the desired shade. Stir until smooth.

Add the remaining Rice Krispies and stir until coated in the marshmallow mixture.

Transfer the red Rice Krispies mixture to the baking dish for the final layer. Flatten and even out the layer. Place the baking dish in the refrigerator and chill for one hour; this will make the Rice Krispies treats easier to cut.

Remove the Rice Krispies slab from the baking dish using the parchment paper pull handles and place it on a cutting board. Cut into 24 evenly shaped squares (about 1 1/2 to 2 inches). Skewer each square with a wooden stick and place them on parchment paper.

Melt the chocolate chips (or Candy Melts) in the microwave in 30-second intervals, stirring after each interval, until smooth.

Drizzle the tops of the 4th of July Rice Krispies treats with the white chocolate. While the chocolate is still wet, sprinkle the red, white, and blue sprinkles over the top.

Let the white chocolate set before serving.
