How to make red, white, and blue appetizers taco bites 4th of July snacks
I’ve got the full Red, White, and Blue Taco Bites recipe at the end of this post, but first I’m sharing some detailed cooking tips. You’ll start by preheating the oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Line a baking sheet with foil and spray with nonstick spray (the nonstick spray will help keep your taco bites from sticking). First, you’ll need to prepare your ground beef by cooking it in a skillet over medium heat until browned and crumbly (about 8 minutes). Drain the excess oil from the skillet and stir in a packet of taco seasoning until well mixed. The taco seasoning will be part of the red color in these red, white and blue appetizers. Cook for an additional 2 minutes, then remove the beef mixture to a paper towel-lined plate to soak up any excess moisture.
The blue in these red, white and blue appetizers comes from round blue corn tortilla chips. If you can’t find blue corn tortilla rounds, blue corn tortilla strips work great for this taco bites recipe as well.
To assemble the first part of these mini taco appetizers, you’ll spread the tortilla chips in a single layer onto the prepared baking sheet, making sure they don’t overlap. You may need to use two baking sheets. Top each chip with a small amount of shredded Monterey Jack cheese (this cheese layer will help keep the chip from getting soggy while the taco bites bake). On top of the cheese add a spoonful of the beef mixture, followed by some salsa (your favorite red salsa to add more red color to these red, white and blue appetizers), followed by a little sour cream. Finally, sprinkle the remaining cheese over the top of each chip, being careful to keep the cheese on the chip as much as you can so when it melts it doesn’t stick to the baking sheet. The cheese and the sour cream will add the white color to these easy Fourth of July appetizers. Bake the taco bites in the pre-heated oven for 5 minutes, or until the cheese has melted.
Finally, pipe or dollop a small amount of the remaining sour cream on the very top of each taco bite. You can also try piping the sour cream into the shape of a star to make these easy Fourth of July appetizers star-spangled!
Serve the mini taco appetizers on a platter. Here’s the full Red, White, and Blue Taco Bites recipe! Enjoy these 4th of July snacks, and have a safe and happy 4th of July!
