What you need to make air fryer cherry hand pies
You only need four ingredients to make these air fryer hand pies. The recipe yields 16 mini cherry hand pies, but the recipe can easily be doubled so you don’t waste the other half of canned pie filling. Here’s what you’ll need:
- 1 14.1-ounce package refrigerated pie dough (like the Pillsbury pack containing two dough rounds)
- 1/2 of a 21-ounce can cherry pie filling (if you want to make a different flavor, you can easily substitute canned blueberry, apple, or lemon pie filling – like this Air Fryer Blueberry Hand Pies recipe, for example)
- Butter-flavored cooking spray
- Coarse sugar crystals for sprinkling
How to make air fryer hand pies
To make these air fried cherry pies, start by rolling out each circle of pie dough to 1/8-inch thickness. Cut circles into the dough using a 3-inch round cookie cutter to make 16 circles (8 circles from each dough round).
Moisten the edge of a circle with water (I like to keep a small bowl of water nearby and dip my fingers). Add 1 tablespoon of canned cherry pie filling in the center of the circle. Making cherry hand pies with canned filling is a huge timesaver and still tastes perfect.
Fold the circle in half and pinch the edges of the dough together to seal your mini cherry hand pies. Use a fork to crimp the edges to secure them further. Add a slit in the top of the crust with a sharp knife. Repeat with the remaining dough circles to make 16 of these mini canned cherry hand pies.
Next, preheat your air fryer to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Tip: Preheating for about 5 minutes is important, otherwise your first batch won’t cook as evenly, as the first several minutes of an air fryer cooking cycle might be a lower temperature. After preheating, spray the air fryer basket with butter-flavored cooking spray. Place the hand pies in the air fryer basket in a single layer (you may need to work in batches). Spray the tops of the pies with more cooking spray, then sprinkle coarse sugar over each of them.
Cook the easy cherry hand pies in the air fryer for 9 minutes, or until they are golden brown.
