What you need to make these football field cupcakes

Here is what you’ll need to make these football field cupcakes with candy goalpost cupcake toppers:
- Chocolate cupcakes (prepared using your favorite recipe, boxed mix, or pre-made from the store)
- Green frosting (buttercream is ideal, and if you can’t find pre-colored frosting, you can tint regular frosting with gel food color)
- Disposable icing decorating bags
- Grass icing tip (I use Wilton tip #233)
- Yellow Candy Melts
- Wax paper
- Optional: Toothpicks or a butter knife
How to make these easy tailgate desserts

These goalpost football cupcakes start with chocolate cupcakes (your favorite recipe, or use store-bought cupcakes as a shortcut). Add green frosting to a decorating bag fitted with a grass icing tip.

Decorate the tops of the cupcakes with the green frosting using the grass tip to make the tops look like grass on a football field.

Melt yellow Candy Melts according to package directions and place the melted candy in a disposable icing bag with the tip snipped off. Using thick lines, pipe goalpost shapes (about 3 inches tall and 2 inches wide) onto wax paper. The bottom part should be longer as it will be inserted into the cupcake.

Tip: To get the edges straighter, you can use a toothpick or butter knife to “cut” a straight line on the edges while the melted candy is still wet and freshly piped (see the example on the top left of the photo above). When you pull the hardened shapes off the wax paper, only the main part should come up, leaving the excess “cut” off on the wax paper.

Allow the Candy Melts to harden (you can chill them in the refrigerator for a few minutes to expedite the hardening process if needed). Remove the Candy Melts goalposts from the wax paper.

Insert the goalpost cupcake toppers onto the top of the football field cupcakes.

These football cupcake designs are so simple, but have such a great impact for your tailgate or game day spread!
