What you need to make this Grilled Cheese with Prosciutto

To make my recipe for Grilled Cheese with Prosciutto, you’ll need the following ingredients (for 4 sandwiches):
- 8 slices of thick and hearty bread (I like to use the Sara Lee Artesano bread)
- Mayonnaise (regular mayo like Hellmann’s or Best Foods works best for this sandwich; not Miracle Whip)
- 8 slices Swiss cheese, divided
- 8 slices Prosciutto
- 2-3 Roma tomatoes, sliced very thin (so they don’t overpower the other ingredients or add too much liquid)
- Freshly cracked black pepper
- 0.5 ounces fresh basil leaves
- Butter or margarine
- Garlic salt
- Grated Parmesan cheese
How to make a Prosciutto Grilled Cheese Sandwich

To make this Prosciutto Grilled Cheese Sandwich, start by adding mayonnaise to one side of each piece of bread, then top 4 of the bread pieces with a slice Swiss cheese on top of the mayo layers. Top the Swiss with 2 pieces of Prosciutto, folded in half. Add a layer of thinly sliced tomatoes on top of the Prosciutto, then season with freshly cracked pepper. Add a layer of fresh basil leaves on top of the seasoned tomatoes, then add the remaining piece of Swiss cheese on top of the basil layer. Finally, top with the other piece of bread, mayonnaise side facing inwards to the sandwich ingredients.
Lightly butter the outside of both pieces of bread for each sandwich, then season the outside with garlic salt and Parmesan cheese.

Heat a flat griddle or nonstick skillet over medium heat. Grill the Prosciutto Grilled Cheese sandwiches, flipping occasionally, until the bread is browned on both sides and the Swiss cheese is melted.

There is something special about this combo of ingredients…
