What you need to make Oreo chocolate brownies
To make this whipped cream brownies recipe with crushed Oreos, you’ll need the following ingredients:
- 1 ½ cups white sugar
- ¾ cup all-purpose flour
- ½ cup high-quality unsweetened dark chocolate cocoa powder (Fab Everyday tip: I recommend Hershey’s Special Dark cocoa powder)
- ½ teaspoon salt
- ¼ teaspoon baking powder
- ¾ cup unsalted butter, melted (Fab Everyday tip: It’s important to use real butter, not margarine, for this recipe)
- 3 large eggs
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 32 chocolate sandwich cookies (such as Oreo®), divided
- 1 (8-ounce) container frozen whipped topping (such as Cool Whip®), thawed
How to make cookies and cream brownies
To make this Oreo chocolate brownies recipe, start by preheating the oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Grease a 9-inch square baking pan with nonstick cooking spray. Mix the sugar, flour, cocoa powder, salt, and baking powder together in a mixing bowl. Whisk the melted butter, eggs, and vanilla extract together in a separate bowl.
Next, add the butter mixture to the flour mixture.
Mix until well combined.
Pour half of the batter into the prepared baking pan and smooth out with a spatula. Add 16 Oreo cookies in an even layer (4 rows of 4 cookies – see the photo above), then spread the remaining half of the batter over the top of the cookies.
Bake the fudgy Oreo brownies in the preheated oven until the edges are brown and the center is set, which will take between 30 to 35 minutes. Remove the pan from the oven and set on a wire rack to cool (let the brownies cool completely, at least 30 minutes, before taking the next steps).
Once the brownies have cooled, you can take the next steps in this cookies and cream brownie recipe. First, crush 12 of the remaining Oreo cookies. Place the whipped topping for this Cool Whip brownie recipe in a bowl and fold in the crushed cookies. Spread the whipped cream brownies topping with crushed Oreos over the top of the cooled brownies. Finally, crush the remaining 4 cookies, then sprinkle them over the top of the whipped cream brownies.
Keep your crushed Oreo brownies refrigerated until you are ready to slice and serve.
These cookies and cream brownies are SO good – perfect for a holiday or pot luck.
