What you need to make Easter egg brownies
To make these Easter brownies, you’ll need the following (in addition to mixing bowls, spoons, and measuring cups):
- 9×13″ baking pan
- Parchment paper (for the pan and more to cut into strips)
- Non-stick cooking spray
- 1 1/2 cups white sugar
- 3/4 cup all-purpose flour
- 1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon baking power
- 3/4 cup butter, melted (Note: You must use real butter; margarine doesn’t work the same in this recipe)
- 3 eggs
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 (16-ounce) container of cream cheese, buttercream, or vanilla cake frosting (basically, your favorite prepared white frosting), softened slightly so it frosts smoothly (but not melted to the point of drippy).
- Easter egg-shaped cookie cutter (Tip: If you don’t want to buy a set of Easter egg cookie cutters, you can bend a metal circle cookie cutter into an egg shape)
- Wilton Spring Sprinkles Mix
- Wilton Spring Nonpareils Sprinkles
How to make Easter themed brownies
To make these delicious Easter chocolate brownies, preheat the oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Line a 9×13″ baking pan with parchment paper, and spray the parchment paper with non-stick spray.
Mix sugar, flour, cocoa powder, salt, and baking powder together in a mixing bowl.
In a separate mixing bowl, mix butter,* eggs, and vanilla extract together.
*Important tip: In order to make these Easter brownies foolproof, it’s important to use real butter, not margarine, for this recipe. I’ve tried it with margarine and it never turns out the right consistency.
Add the butter mixture to the bowl with the flour mixture and stir the batter until well mixed.
Pour the batter into the prepared baking pan.
Bake the Easter brownies in the preheated oven until the edges are brown and the center is set, about 30 minutes.
Remove the pan from the oven and let the brownies cool completely, about 30 minutes. After cooling, remove the brownies from the pan by lifting the parchment paper (with brownies) out of the pan. Frost the top of the brownie sheet with a thin but even layer of the softened frosting (you may not need all of the frosting).
Cut the brownie sheet into egg shapes with an Easter egg shaped cookie cutter.
To decorate the Easter Egg Brownies, dip some eggs into a shallow dish of the Spring Nonpareils Sprinkles (carefully pressing the frosting side down into it to cover with the sprinkles).
For the remainder of the Easter themed brownies, cut parchment or wax paper into thin strips (similar to my method of decorating this Easter Egg Cheese Ball). Lay the strips over the top of the frosting, with gaps between them. Press sprinkles from the Spring Sprinkles Mix, alternating between different sprinkles from the pack, onto the frosting in the open spaces between the wax paper strips. Remove the wax paper to reveal plain white stripes in between the sprinkles stripes.
Each striped egg can be different, using different combinations of sprinkles from the Spring Mix pack.
These Easter brownie ideas are very family-friendly, as kids can help decorate some of the Easter Egg Brownies however they like! Each one can be unique.
If this is your first time trying my brownies, you’re in for a crisp-on-the-outside-fudgy-and-gooey-on-the-inside treat!
