What you need to make a coffee ice cream float

To make a coffee ice cream float (one serving), here’s what you’ll need:
- 1 ½ tablespoons hot cocoa mix (from a single-serving packet or a bulk cannister), divided
- 1 teaspoon ground coffee, plus more for garnish
- ½ cup vanilla ice cream, or more to taste (though feel free to experiment with other ice cream flavors, like French vanilla, java chunk, salted caramel, chocolate, and more)
- 8 ounces hot coffee (you can also use cold brew or cold coffee – which will prevent the ice cream from melting as fast – but keep in mind the cocoa mix won’t dissolve into cold coffee as easily)
How to make a coffee float

This ice cream coffee float recipe is simple! First, combine ½ tablespoon of hot cocoa mix and 1 teaspoon of ground coffee in a shallow dish. Dip the rim of a 16-ounce glass (you’ll need room for your ice cream plus a full 8-ounce cup of coffee) into the ice cream to moisten the rim, then dip the rim into the cocoa and ground coffee mixture to coat evenly.
Next, add the ice cream to the glass. Note: the cup should be filled about halfway with ice cream, but not packed. You’ll still need room for a good amount of coffee!
Mix hot coffee with the remaining 1 tablespoon of hot cocoa mix, stirring until the cocoa has dissolved (if you use cold coffee it won’t dissolve as easily). Then, pour the coffee into the glass over the ice cream.

Finally, sprinkle the top with additional ground coffee to garnish for a pretty presentation for the coffee floats and serve immediately.
