I can’t believe my littlest is 3! We celebrated the big t-h-r-e-e with a construction-themed birthday party for the little dude. Thanks to good ol’ Pinterest, there was no shortage of inspiration to plan the décor and DIY projects for the party. Today I am paying that inspiration forward with lots of construction birthday party ideas, including food for a construction party, construction birthday party décor, construction party favors, and free construction party printables! Construction Birthday Party Food and Drink Ideas
Cake inspired by Pinterest, this construction themed birthday party cake is a layered chocolate round cake with crushed Oreo cookie “dirt” and these CAT Mini Machines purchased from Amazon.
For the candles, we used these construction cone candles, also from Amazon.
Construction birthday party beverages included water bottles (with labels removed, and wrapped with construction stripe tape) and Sunny D in an orange Igloo cooler (or “Crew Punch”). Cups from Party City.
What’s a construction themed party without some building involved? Guests served themselves from a Build-a-Burger bar with mini ground chicken and cheese sliders.
Condiments were stored in empty paint cans from Home Depot, with mini paint brushes (also from Home Depot) to spread. Perfect and simple construction party ideas!
Snacks and other foods were stored in toy dump truck buckets and plastic hard hats (link below in the favors section) to continue the construction party theme.
We had a few yellow and orange-colored snacks to go along with the construction birthday party décor color scheme. Super healthy, I know!
Paint cans were also great to hold dips, like this spinach dip and salsa.
Some sweet construction birthday party treats included wafer cookies (lumber), and Rice Krispies treat pops dipped in yellow candy melts (wet paint). These were hits with both kids and adults!
Cutlery were wrapped in yellow napkins (all from Party City) and tied with a “Dig In!” label. They were displayed in one of the boys’ toy plastic tool boxes.
Yellow square plates from Party City, and extra cutlery stored in empty paint cans wrapped with construction tape trim.
Construction Themed Birthday Party Décor
Extension cord and plastic tool wreath.
Ahem… I may have purchased a real barricade for décor… I got it from Amazon here. Hopefully I can sell it on a local BST so another family can enjoy it for their construction party!
I may have also purchased a wheelbarrow from Home Depot. But this one we can actually use again!
Construction Party Favors
One of the construction party favors was this yellow and brown candy buffet displayed in these yellow plastic storage bins, and using these toy shovels as scoops.
The yellow candy came from Party City, the Whoppers and chocolate covered raisins were from a grocery store, and the Reese’s Pieces were purchased in bulk from Amazon.
We had other fun construction party favors for the kids that included yellow plastic hardhats, these canvas work aprons from Home Depot (only $0.97 each!) each with two plastic tools in the pockets, and little goodie bags (details below).
All crew (kids) entering the construction site (party) had to put on their hardhats and tool belts.
Goodie bags included Reese’s Pieces (purchased in bulk from Amazon), plastic toy shovels, and mini plastic toy construction vehicles wrapped in clear favor bags from Party City with an “I Dig You!” printable label.
Construction Birthday Party Activities Ideas
S was in it before the party even started, and stayed out there pretty much the whole time!
Construction themed birthday party game idea: Orange cones provided not only party décor, but also props for this cone ring toss game. 10 pack of cones purchased from Amazon.
I also printed several copies of these construction themed coloring pages for the kids to play with inside with some jumbo crayons: dump truck, excavator, bulldozer, and toolbox.
Construction Party Printables
All my free construction party printables are available in this post here. These printables are free, but I would appreciate a follow for @fabeveryday on social media (you can find me on Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest, and Instagram) in return. Another birthday party done, and another good time had by all, especially our birthday boy! I wonder what theme G will have in store for us next! Don’t forget to share and pin if you are inspired!

Our planner knew tons of vendors but knows which vendors would work well with my event and venue. They were all great. The event planner would try to attend as many vendor meetings as she could. Which was very helpful.

OK this is soooo great!! I will definitely follow you! Your construction party was so great and thank you for the printables! I am so not crafty so this really helps. Also I love the "I DIG YOU!" small cut outs. Did you hand draw and cut out each one or did you find stock paper that already had that shape perforated?

Venus – I have a punch in that shape, so didn't have to hand cut them!
Madeliene and Haritha – all the printables should be linked in the blog post.
