What you need to make a spiderweb dip (Halloween layer dip)
To make and serve this spider web taco dip, here’s what you’ll need:
- 1 cup guacamole
- 1 ½ cups sour cream, divided
- 1 (1.25-ounce) package taco seasoning
- 1 ½ cups finely shredded Cheddar and Monterey Jack cheese blend
- 1 (15-ounce) jar salsa (mild, medium, or hot, depending on your preference)
- 1 (20-ounce) can refried black beans (using refried black beans adds more of a spooky look to this spooky dip since it’s darker in color than traditional refried beans)
- 1 large black olive
- 1 (6-ounce) can sliced black olives
- Chopped green onions (for garnish)
- For some extra drama, serve with blue corn tortilla chips for dipping
Ingredient Tip: If your serving container has the space, you can add extra layers and make this a 7 layer spiderweb dip! Feel free to add layers of chopped tomatoes, more sliced black olives, chopped cilantro, sliced jalapenos, taco seasoned beef, or your other favorite taco dip additions to this spooky dip.
How to make a spider web taco dip
To make this taco dip for Halloween, start by spreading guacamole in the bottom of a round serving dish in an even layer.
Mix 1 cup of the sour cream with the taco seasoning in a bowl, then spread the seasoned sour cream mixture evenly over the guacamole layer. Note: If you’re pressed on time or don’t have taco seasoning, you can skip it and just use sour cream on its own. However, reviewers have shared that the taco seasoning adds a little something extra that makes this Halloween taco dip recipe special.
Next, sprinkle cheese on top of the sour cream, then pour salsa evenly over the cheese, covering it completely.
Here comes my favorite part of the Halloween five layer dip. Pour refried black beans into a microwave-safe container and warm in the microwave until softened (this will make it easier to spread). Spread over the top of the salsa layer, leaving about 1 inch of the salsa showing around the edge of the dish. I just love the way the dark color of the refried black beans looks on top of this taco dip with a creepy seeping of red salsa around the edge!
Now is where we get to play with our food and get creative for our spiderweb dip! Place the remaining 1/2 cup of sour cream into a piping bag (or a plastic zipper bag with the corner snipped off). Pipe a spiderweb pattern on top of the bean layer.
Add a spider to the top of the spider web taco dip by cutting the large black olive in half lengthwise to make the spider’s body. Cut four of the sliced olives in half to create eight legs. Arrange the pieces on top of the web so they look like a spider.
Finally, arrange the remaining sliced black olives and the chopped green onions around the edge of the spiderweb dip.
For some extra drama, serve the Halloween taco dip recipe with blue corn tortilla chips for dipping. The dark color of the chips makes the presentation of this spooky dip Halloween party ready!
