Pokemon-Themed 7th Birthday Party

If you’ve been following the blog over the last few months, then I’m sure you noticed that the kids (and admittedly, me as well) have become quite the fans of Pokémon.  So much so that my oldest made a late decision to change his birthday party theme from Minecraft to Pokémon!  I didn’t mind either way, honestly, as both themes would be fun to work with.

I recently shared details on the DIY paper plate Poke Ball craft the kids did at the party.  Today, I am sharing the rest of the details from the Pokémon-themed birthday party.  Click here to view my Pokémon party planning inspiration board on Pinterest, and click here to follow @fabeveryday on Pinterest for ongoing party and DIY inspiration.

Disclosure: This post contains some affiliate links, which means that if you click on one of the product links and make a purchase, I may receive a commission.  This does not cost you anything additional, and helps me to keep the rest of my content free, so thank you!

Pokémon Birthday Party Food and Drink

Poke Ball pizza!  You can either order or make a pizza that’s half cheese, half pepperoni, then add a stripe of sliced black olives yourself.  Sprinkle a little mozzarella cheese in the center for a circle.

Black serving trays filled with red and white food also makes a great Poke Ball-themed party snack.  I did strawberries, bananas, and yogurt for one, and red bell pepper, cauliflower, and ranch dip for the other.

The kiddo requested Poke Ball sugar cookies, so I used my go-to classic sugar cookies recipe from Betty Crocker, and frosted the round cookies with cake decorating icing to make them into Poke Balls.

I used my Cricut a lot for this party.  Using the Cricut to cut the Poke Ball pieces, I used my usual DIY cupcake topper method to make Poke Ball cupcake toppers to top the red and white cupcakes.  I used red foil cupcake cups to coordinate with the rest of the décor.

For a subtle detail, I arranged the cupcakes like a Poke Ball as well (red frosted cupcakes on top, white frosted cupcakes on bottom).

I made water bottle labels with faces of a few popular Pokémon (Charmander, Jigglypuff, Squirtle, Pikachu, and Bulbasaur).  You can find a link to the free printable at the bottom of this post.

I was inspired by this Pokémon snack bar on Sharing Party Ideas, and decided to use the idea for our party as well.  You can buy the printable Pokémon Party Food Cards here.  PLEASE NOTE: The cards shown in my photos were a custom order from the seller, as I had some specific wording I wanted to use for some of the cards.  The standard order has some differences, but feel free to inquire with her on a custom order.  The kids loved eating the “Squirtle Squares,” “Charmander Cheetos,” etc.  The “Diglett Worms” didn’t stand a chance!

I used clear plastic and red containers from Dollar Tree to hold everything.  I found this great Pikachu bank on Amazon that made the perfect centerpiece for the snack bar!

Pokémon Birthday Party Décor

This “Welcome Pokémon Trainers” sign welcomed our party guests at the front door.

I used my Cricut to make this Happy Birthday banner.  The Cricut is amazing… not only was I able to print the Poke Balls, but I was also able to print the lettering using Pokémon font!

I got a pack of Pokémon balloons from Amazon (no DIY needed for these, though I did see some cute DIY versions on Pinterest if you are willing to take the time). The pack I purchased is no longer available, but here’s a similar pack from Amazon.

I made these “Keep Calm and Catch ‘Em All” signs to print for additional party décor.  You can find links to the free printable at the bottom of this post.

Red dessert plates and beverage napkins to match the décor.

I purchased a few sets of hanging Poke Ball decorations from Amazon. Unfortunately, it appears the ones I used are sold out. However, there are also some DIYs available to create a similar effect with red and white honeycomb balls.

Another Cricut project that turned out to be such a cute detail!  I used the Cricut to cut out little Poke Balls that I used on the cutlery rolls.  I used red dinner napkins and black plastic cutlery for these.

Pokémon Birthday Party Activities

A super fun and cute party activity were Pokémon coloring pages (printed from Google Images search of Pokémon coloring pages), and a paper plate Poke Ball craft.  You can see details and instructions for the DIY paper plate Poke Ball craft in this blog post here.

With his favorite Pokémon: Magnemite!

This Pin the Poke Ball on the Pokémon game was a big hit!  Every kid played it at least once.  You can find a link for the free printable at the end of this post.

In addition to the printable for the sign and the balls, all you need is a blindfold, some double-sided tape, and some prizes.  For prizes I used mini plastic Pokémon figurines that I found in bulk on Amazon.

Pokémon Birthday Party Favors

You are probably noticing a pretty prominent theme of red and white Poke Balls in the party décor.  I bought these red gift bags from Amazon and made them into “Poke Balls” by adding some white paper to the bottom half, then a strip of black paper, and black and white circles (made with a circle punch).

For the sign holders, I spray painted the top half of white IKEA Tolsby frames red.  I love the Tolsby frames – they are only 99 cents!

Inside the favor bags were plastic Poke Balls (I got this pack of assorted Poke Balls from Amazon – cheap, but the kids loved ’em), Pokémon silicon bracelets (these ones are sold out, but here’s a similar set), Pokémon temporary tattoos, Pokémon cards (I got this huge bulk assortment from Amazon), and Pokémon character wrapped mini chocolate bars (you can get the link to the free candy wrapper printable at the end of this post).

Since Pokémon Go is what got our family into this whole craze in the first place, we wanted to do something to rep our Pokémon Go team (Team Mystic rules!).  We were planning to just make Team Mystic shirts for our family to wear at the party, but thanks to a great holiday sale on t-shirts at Jo-Ann ($2 each!), we decided that this would be a fun favor for all the kids!  We used the t-shirts from Jo-Ann, fabric spray paint in blue, yellow, and red, and stencils from Etsy seller DetroitStencils to create shirts for each kid in their Pokémon Go team. Unfortunately it looks like the seller is no longer active on Etsy, but here is a listing for similar options.

I can’t believe my first-born is seven!  I wonder how much longer he is going to want his mommy doing parties for him?

All printables for the party are available in this post here.  The printables I created are free, but I would appreciate a follow for @fabeveryday on social media (you can find me on Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest, or Instagram) in return.  If you post pictures of your parties, tag @fabeveryday in them so we can see what you do!  Finally, if you blog about your party, please link back to fabeveryday.com in your blog posts to credit the printables and inspiration.

Thanks for visiting, and don’t forget to pin and share if you are inspired!

@akame kitty, I just used regular printer paper, which was fine since the water was at room temperature.

@ramonruby thank you for this great post!!
What type of mini chocolate bars did you use for the wrapper printable?
Would mini-Hersey bars work? (like halloween sized)
Also is there a link for the Welcome Trainers poster? Or was that a purchased file?
If so where can I get it from?
    Thank you!

@Andrea Drake – I used the assorted pack of mini Hershey bars for those. They fit perfectly. The Welcome sign was adapted from the custom art I purchased for the food signs. You may want to check with that seller, or try to recreate yourself with the Pokémon logo and a Pokeball clipart.

Thank you! For 11×17 I usually go to FedEx office and print it from their multi-function printer (the one where you can bring your own flash drive and do your own printing).

This all looks amazing!! I would love to have a Pokemon party for my eldest, but because of Covid this year, he’s having some friends to go karting, and we’re not having anyone back at the house. It’s just too complicated. I’ve put some sweets in Pokemon cups, bought stickers to put in the bags, put one sticker on a notebook for each goody bag, and am just on here looking for free printables to put around water bottles. So many fantastic ideas for food! I think we shall have to have a Pokeball pizza just for the sake of it!
