The #FabFam loves creating our family Halloween costume each year (see some of our family Halloween costume ideas from years past). It’s a nightly topic of discussion during family dinner time as October approaches. Today we are super excited to announce our family Halloween costume for 2019: Stranger Things! We decided to dress as some of the characters from Stranger Things season 3. Since I’m the only girl in the family, I got to be Eleven in all her mid-80s style-wearing, “I dump your ass” glory. The hubs opted for a Hawkins Police Chief Hopper costume. Since Sawyer has the perfect curly hair for it, he is season 3 Dustin. Always the creative, Grayson wanted to make his own Demogorgon Halloween costume. Here are details on how to make each of these easy DIY Stranger Things Halloween costumes. Pin this one to your family Halloween costume ideas or cosplay boards, and be sure to share on social media and tag @fabeveryday if you do these Stranger Things season 3 Halloween costumes!

DIY adult Eleven Halloween costume from Stranger Things season 3
While there are ready-made Eleven costumes out there, I thought it would be fun to put together my own DIY season 3 Eleven Halloween costume. Here’s what you need to make your own El costume:
- 80’s-style geometric and brightly colored button-up shirt. The one I got is sold out, but this one is a fun alternative, or you can look for one at a thrift store.
- Light blue jeans
- Blue suspenders
- White Keds-style shoes
- Yellow scrunchie
- Red lipstick or costume makeup for a fake nosebleed
DIY adult Chief Hopper Stranger Things Halloween costume
The Chief Hopper Halloween costume was an easy one to DIY. There are a lot of Stranger Things costume components available online to combine with more basic pieces. Here is how to make a Stranger Things Hopper Halloween costume:
- Tan uniform shirt
- Khaki pants
- Brown boots
- Ranger hat
- Hopper ID badge
- Hawkins Police patch
- American flag patch
- Police badge
- Aviator sunglasses
Children’s Stranger Things season 3 Dustin Halloween costume
With Sawyer’s curly hair he just had to be Dustin! Since I was season 3 El, we chose a Stranger Things season 3 Dustin Halloween costume, which included his camp garb. Here is what you need to make a Dustin costume from Stranger Things:
- Camp Know Where t-shirt
- Camp Know Where hat
- Curly hair wig (if you don’t have naturally curly hair like Sawyer)
- Khaki shorts
- Tennis shoes
- Striped socks
- Vintage walkie talkie (I found ours on eBay)
DIY kid’s Stranger Things Demogorgon Halloween costume
There are some good ready-made Demogorgon kid’s Halloween costumes out there, but Grayson insisted on DIYing. We found a really easy way to make one! Here are the components we used for our DIY Stranger Things Demogorgon costume:
- Gray bodysuit
- We covered the suit in strands made with colored glue gun sticks. This was super easy! Just make sure your model has another layer of long clothes underneath so the heat from the glue doesn’t hurt them (as they should be wearing the suit while adding the strands; otherwise they might break when stretched if they put on the bodysuit afterward).
- We used cardboard covered in felt for the petals (gray felt for the main part, pink for the inside, and white for the teeth), and secured them onto a gray workout headband. We are still looking at ways to make them retractable so that they can open and close.
Happy Halloween!!
