Halloween is quite possibly my favorite holiday. The #FabFam has fun choosing a family costume each year (and I’ll do this until my kids think they are too cool for it… and maybe even push for it then). Some of our costumes from the past few years include Star Wars: The Force Awakens, The LEGO Movie, Despicable Me / Minions, and Avengers.

This year, we chose characters from Harry Potter! My oldest is Harry, my youngest is Voldemort (of course he is), hubby is Ron Weasley, and I am Hermione Granger. Nik and I debated between a few other pairs as well, with Severus Snape and Lily Potter being another top choice. Ultimately, we thought we’d fit the family costume better with Ron and Hermione.

Here are details for all of our costumes. Pretty much all of these components can be purchased through Amazon on Prime, so it is not too late to do these costumes yourself.

Ron Weasley

  • Gryffindor robe
  • White button-up shirt
  • Gryffindor tie
  • Red hair (we used copper temporary spray-on hair color)
  • Ron’s wand

Harry Potter

  • Gryffindor robe
  • White button-up shirt
  • Gryffindor tie
  • Glasses
  • Harry’s wand
  • Facial scar (DIY – I used lip liner because the pink color looks more like a natural scar than black eyeliner)

Lord Voldemort

  • We got a kid’s costume that included Voldemort’s robe with a mask, but it’s no longer available. You can get a separate mask and robe, though.
  • Voldemort’s wand

Hermione Granger

  • Gryffindor robe
  • White button-up shirt
  • Gryffindor tie
  • Black sweater vest
  • Grey schoolgirl skirt
  • Black tights or pantyhose
  • Frizzy hair (DIY – ideally you’d have some partially crimped and/or curly pieces along with some teasing underneath for some volume)
  • Hermione’s wand

We are looking forward to lots of tricking and treating in these costumes this year!
